MUSCAT: Dr Amira al Raidan, Supervisor for Drug Awareness and Training at the Prevention Committee of the National Committee for Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances, has been selected to participate in the prestigious Humphrey Fellowship Programme, becoming the first Omani participant in more than a decade.
The Humphrey Fellowship Programme is one of the most prominent exchange initiatives of the United States government, bringing accomplished professionals to the US for academic study, leadership development and collaboration with American counterparts.
US Ambassador to the Sultanate of Oman, Ana Escrogima, met Dr Al Raidan to celebrate the achievement and extended her best wishes for success during the fellowship year.
The Ambassador said Dr Al Raidan was one of the most prominent supporters of mental health and addiction prevention initiatives in Oman through her work at the Ministry of Health. “We look forward to seeing the impact her experience at the Humphrey Fellowship will have on this vital field,” she said.
Speaking to Observer, Dr Al Raidan expressed her delight at being selected for the prestigious programme, describing it as both an honour and a responsibility.
“I am very glad to have been chosen for the Humphrey Fellowship Programme. It is a dream for many, and I see it as another opportunity to fulfil my responsibility towards society and to exchange ideas and expertise,” she said.
Dr Al Raidan has been a leading advocate for mental health and addiction prevention initiatives in Oman through her work with the Ministry of Health and in her role as Senior Medical Officer at the Addiction Unit of the Muscat Taafi Center. She has also previously served at Al Massara Hospital.
